According to the project agreement the Resource Center is entrusted with tasks of developing the awareness on migration-related issues among the Georgian non-governmental organizations and developing their capacity to address migration-related concerns through provision of the relevant information and other activities. | SOUTH CAUCASIAN NETWORK

Through the CISCONF Programme of action, international organizations and governments have emphasized the importance of development of durable solutions for population displacement and related migration problems, and recognized as well the essential role of national NGOs in achieving these solutions. To meet these needs, the IOM Regional Office for the Caucasus established in 1997 the Regional Programme for Migration-Sector National NGO Development (NGO MSDP). The Programme is implemented through a key NGO in each Caucausus country.

The main goal of the IOM NGO Migration Sector Development Programme is to significantly assist in strengthening of the ability of NGOs to contribute to migration sector concerns in each of the three Caucasus countries.

IOM offices in each country sub-contracted the implementation of the project to the implementing partner national NGO:

  • Armenian Sociological Association (ASA) in Armenia,
  • Hayat in Azerbaijan, and the
  • United Nations Association in Georgia.

| SMALL PROJECTS FUND:

The main objective of NGO MSDP is to enable national NGOs to broaden their knowledge of NGO roles in the migration sector. In the NGO MSDP other national NGOs are engaged through the implementation of Small Projects Fund and through national and regional forum activities. The winners of the Small Projects Fund were elected from 11 applicants. For implementation of the projects in 2000 were selected:

| TRAININGS:

One of the goals of the Resource-Center is to provide national NGOs with trainings and seminars. The Resource-Center and IOM have already carried out two regional trainings in Gori and Kutaisi. The trainings provide general information on migration agenda, historical development of the migration trends, activities of IOM in Georgia and all over the world. Second part of the meeting is devoted to discussion on main migration-related concerns in each regioin.
